Quan Yin – Guanyin, Boddhisatva of Compassion and Goddess of Mercy, often depicted as both male and female to show this figure’s limitless transcendence beyond gender. This rendition was painted after a pilgrimage to sit with the life-sized 11th century statue in a shrine room of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, KS. Original painting is egg tempera on board, 9” x 11”.
Fatima Rigsby has been drawing since early childhood and began painting in 1985. These paintings are from a series of darshan (described as an “auspicious sight” of a holy person, which bestows merit on the person who is seen) and dervish paintings done over a period from 1990 – 2000.
Fatima has been a friend of Lama Foundation since 1971. She was a resident at Lama in 1999 – 2001 and has continued to serve Lama in many ways from her home in Taos, NM.
